What is BioJam?
We are seeking highly motivated high school students to participate in BioJam, a FREE academic program from Stanford University that engages high school students in biology, art, and engineering through their own culture and creativity. You do not need to have prior experience with biology or technology to apply!
After the summer, BioJam continues throughout the 2021-2022 school year where teens will design community engagement activities based on what they learned at camp. Last year, in collaboration with the BioJam Team members, teens delivered face masks, created museum exhibits, and created artwork for professional art exhibits. |
When is BioJam?
BioJam starts with a 2-week summer camp (June 28th - July 9th, 2021) themed around climate change, sustainability, and environmental justice. Campers will grow plants, use circuits to create greenhouse structures with LED lights, and create a self watering gardening system. Camp will occur remotely and we will provide all materials by delivering kits. We can also provide laptops, if needed. BioJam activities continue throughout the academic year.

2021 Curriculum Pathways
Let's imagine a magical future with art, science, culture, and biomaking.
Our 2021 camp is centered around kits, which fold out into a collaborative structure between humans, plants, microbes and electronics.
Together, we will reflect on our cultural knowledge to create science and art projects that imagine a future of justice, sustainability, and coexistence in the face of environmental change.
At camp you will learn alongside peers from the East Bay, San Jose, Salinas, and South Monterey County, as well as community educators and Stanford students. We are excited to learn with you!

Camp Modules
Traditional & Cultural Knowledge
Together, we will explore how our cultural knowledge and lived experience already makes us expert scientists by growing seeds! How can we build on this expertise to innovate sustainable solutions? |
Circuitry as Art
To collaborate with plants and microbes, we'll create art with lights, temperature and water sensors, and a self-watering system using micro.bit+ and powered by the sun. |
Agriculture Technology
What is future ecosystem of food production? We will create an aquaponics system in a jar to explore the future of regenerative agriculture. |
